Chashme Shahi, meaning “Royal Spring,” is the smallest yet one of the most charming Mughal gardens in Srinagar. Built in 1632 by Ali Mardan Khan under the orders of Emperor Shah Jahan, this garden is famous for its natural freshwater spring believed to have medicinal properties. Located on the slopes of the Zabarwan Range and overlooking Dal Lake, Chashme Shahi is designed in a three-terraced layout with flowing water channels, fountains, and neatly maintained flower beds. Unlike the larger Mughal gardens, it has a more intimate and peaceful setting, offering visitors a refreshing blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty in a compact space.

Wear comfortable footwear since the garden is built on a slope with multiple steps. Carry a light jacket in the evening, especially during spring and autumn. As the garden is smaller compared to Nishat and Shalimar, you can easily combine it with a visit to Pari Mahal or a Shikara ride on Dal Lake in the same itinerary.
